V Belt Centrifugal Feeder for Electrical Covers

Our customer asked us to build a system to feed two styles of outlet covers. The covers needed to be fed with the faces up, end to end, with the ground hole leading.
To obtain the final orientation a sensor array had to be set up to find the leading edge of the product and detect the ground hole on. If the ground hole was detected by the sensor, the part passed through to the discharge of the feeder. If the ground hole was not detected, the part was blown back into the feeder to be inspected again.
Because the parts were decorative in nature, the customer could not tolerate scratching of the surfaces, so all product contact surfaces were to be made from non-marring plastic
Our customer specified that no metal tooling was allowed. A special belting material was used to transport the product without damage. The system was designed with a custom conveyor utilizing Eagle belting urethane material.
A 5-cu ft vibratory style hopper supplies product on demand of a bowl level sensor to a 50” diameter centrifugal feeder. The feeder oriented the product in a single file line, face up, end to end with the ground hole leading and transferred them to the custom urethane V-belt conveyor with an output rate of 60ppm.
The system ran on 120 VAC 60 Hz 1 Phase and was controlled by Allen Bradley electrical components with the control system designed by Performance Feeders Inc.
